Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at hello@arcadiacounselling.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The cost of counselling services at Arcadia Counselling varies depending on the type of service you want. I offer a free 15-minute consultation for all new clients to see if I am a good match for you. Following that, I offer individual or family/couples sessions at $200/50-min and $300/80-min. Please contact us directly to discuss our fees as well as available sliding scale options. I never want finances to be a barrier to accessing support.

During your first session, you should expect to discuss your current concerns and your goals for therapy. This is a chance for me to gain an understanding of your situation and for you to learn about my approach. Remember, the first session is about getting to know each other and establishing a therapeutic relationship based on trust and respect.

Arcadia Counselling can help you with a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, relationship problems, stress management, and more. We will work with you to develop a treatment plan that meets your unique needs and goals.

The frequency of counselling sessions with Arcadia Counselling will depend on your individual needs and goals. Some clients may benefit from weekly sessions, while others may attend bi-weekly, monthly, or on an as-needed basis.

Referrals for counselling are not required.

We are committed to providing high-quality therapy services in a safe, respectful, and confidential environment. Arcadia Counselling is guided by the strict ethical standards and codes of practice set forth by the CCPA (Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association) and ACTA (Association of Counselling Therapists of Alberta). As a client, you are entitled to several fundamental rights throughout our work together, including, but not limited to:

  • Respect for Autonomy: You have the right to make informed decisions about your life and the counselling process. You are the expert in your life, and our role is to support you in navigating your path, respecting your values, beliefs, and decisions.
  • Non-Maleficence: Our priority is to ensure no harm comes to you through our therapeutic interventions. Our approaches are carefully chosen to avoid causing psychological harm and to prioritize your safety.
  • Beneficence: Our goal is to promote your well-being and growth. We strive to contribute positively to your life, focusing on strategies that improve your mental health and overall quality of life.
  • Confidentiality: Your privacy is paramount. Information you share in therapy is protected and will not be disclosed without your consent, except under specific, legally mandated conditions (such as risks of harm to yourself or others). This cornerstone of our practice helps foster a safe space for open dialogue.
  • Informed Consent: From the onset, we ensure you fully understand the counselling process, the methodologies employed, and any potential risks or benefits. You are informed about your rights and responsibilities as a client, ensuring a transparent and collaborative therapeutic relationship.
  • Competence: We practice within our areas of expertise, ensuring you receive knowledgeable and professional care. Continuing education and adherence to current best practices in mental health care are benchmarks of our commitment to quality.
  • Integrity: Ethical practice and honesty are the foundations of our interactions. We commit to being transparent, accountable, and truthful, upholding professional standards in all our dealings with you.
  • Social Responsibility: We recognize our obligation to contribute positively to the local Calgary community and society. Our practice is informed by current social issues, cultural competence, and a commitment to promoting mental health awareness and accessibility.

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, we honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis, and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy. We extend our recognition to the Kainai, Siksika and Piikani First Nations, as well as the Tsuut’ina, the Stoney Nakoda and the Metis Nation (Region 3), who have nurtured and protected these mountains, prairies, foothills and rivers throughout generations. Mourning the injustices of the past and present, we acknowledge the painful history of colonization that has affected Indigenous nations and cultures.

Our commitment is more than just words; it is a pledge to engage in ongoing learning, to listen earnestly to the stories and voices of Indigenous Peoples, and to foster relationships based on mutual respect and understanding. We embrace the opportunity to join hands with Indigenous communities in walking the path of reconciliation.
