One of my favourite parts of my job is being the first counsellor for kiddos and teenagers. I strive to show them that counselling is a safe place where they can discuss their concerns without consequences.
Counselling for yourself can be helpful to work through thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. We are all human and life happens! Discussing and working through any concerns can help us understand ourselves and how to better cope in the future as well.
If all partners in the relationship are willing and motivated, multiple people in counselling can be powerful.
Whether it is nuclear or chosen family, it can be difficult navigating and understanding each other. We work to improve communication, interactions, and boundaries in family therapy to help solve problems that arise.
In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, we honour and acknowledge Moh’kinsstis, and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy. We extend our recognition to the Kainai, Siksika and Piikani First Nations, as well as the Tsuut’ina, the Stoney Nakoda and the Metis Nation (Region 3), who have nurtured and protected these mountains, prairies, foothills and rivers throughout generations. Mourning the injustices of the past and present, we acknowledge the painful history of colonization that has affected Indigenous nations and cultures.
Our commitment is more than just words; it is a pledge to engage in ongoing learning, to listen earnestly to the stories and voices of Indigenous Peoples, and to foster relationships based on mutual respect and understanding. We embrace the opportunity to join hands with Indigenous communities in walking the path of reconciliation.
